Willkommen in Deutschland

Fear is an interesting concept. I expected to be scared when the plane took off from Chicago to Madrid—after all I was leaving the country for the first time, in order to work and live on an army base in the Middle East. Yet the only thing I was thinking of was whether or not to look out my window or the camera that alternated between a bird’s eye view of the plane and the pilot’s view. In the end I swiveled my head back and forth—really fast. Any first time travelers’ here? Ah yes swivel head girl, welcome. When I landed in Madrid and realized I had no way to connect to the Internet and let my family and those close know I was alive I wasn’t scared. When the German lady told me to exit the shuttle my heart jumped a little but still not scared. However, when I realized that the entire outline of the job and my expectations had either changed or been wrong. I was terrified. The realization that I had just flown across the world for a job that told me they needed me by the end of the week and then to have it change—threw me for a loop. Luckily, I adjusted. As such I am staying and if you want to read about my adventures—first in Germany and later in Bagram, Afghanistan—then keep reading. When I update again.
